Affiliate Link Checker Demo Video

Hello everyone, in this video I'm going to show you how to use our Affiliate Link Checker Tool. You point this tool at your website, and it will scan every page looking to see if your outbound affiliate links are broken — meaning they’re pointing to pages that are now 404 errors, so you won't get any commission. It will also check if all your outbound affiliate links have the correct tracking tags on them too. Before we show you the tool in action, let's just go through some of the settings here. Here, you simply enter the full address of the website you want to check. Next, we've got the setting to check for broken outbound links that won't be our scanner IP getting blocked. What that means is that if we scan your website and start checking all the outbound links, you might have a ton of links pointing to one affiliate website. If we keep following that same link and loading the affiliate site many times, it could block our IP address. I would keep these settings as they are. I would have the option ticked to only show 404 errors, and leave the next one unticked — because that setting shows 403 and 500 errors, which can sometimes appear if our scanner is blocked. So, I'd leave those two settings as they are. The next setting depends on whether you “nofollow” your affiliate links or not. If you nofollow your affiliate links, leave that unchecked — you’ll still want to check those links. If your affiliate links are normal dofollow links, and maybe your blog allows comments with links, then tick that box to avoid scanning nofollow links (which are normally comment links). Then we have the option to show each broken link only once. I generally leave that on because you might have many of the same link, and it makes the results easier to view. Now let’s go to the next group of settings. This is the important one: if you click here, you’ll have the option to add different affiliate domains you’re linking to, and then add the tracking tag that should be included to make sure you get your commission. The tool will check all of those links to that domain to see if they have the correct tracking tag. For example, the Tom’s Hardware website uses a specific tracking tag in its Amazon affiliate links. With this setting, every outbound link to Amazon from tomshardware.com will be checked to see if it includes the correct affiliate tracking tag. If it doesn’t, we’ll show you that link and what page it’s on — because without that tag, you’re missing out on commission. Next, we have the scan speed setting. If you know your website won’t block our scanner’s IP address, you can crank that up to 10. If you want to be safe, leave it around 5. That covers the settings. Let’s start a scan, and then we’ll come back in a minute to see the results. After a few minutes, we scanned about 2,000 pages, and you can see that there are quite a lot of affiliate links to Amazon from tomshardware.com where they’re completely missing any sort of affiliate tracking tag. That means if someone clicks from these pages through to Amazon and buys something, tomshardware.com will miss out on their affiliate commission. Something else we found — if we apply the filter to show only dead links, you can see we found a ton of 404 errors where the website is linking to pages that are no longer there. That’s always a good thing to check for if you have an affiliate website and you’re linking out to a lot of affiliate programs. If you get a 404 when linking out, you’re probably not going to get any commission, because the thing you’re linking to is gone — and the user probably isn’t going to buy something when they hit a 404 page. That concludes our demo. Hopefully you can see this tool is very useful if you are changing your affiliate tags, doing an audit of someone else’s site, or buying a site and want to make sure all the outbound links have the correct tracking codes. As you can see, this tool can scan a large website quickly and give you an overview of any affiliate links that are missing tags or pointing to dead pages. That concludes our video. As always, thank you for watching.
