Hello everyone, in this video I'm going to show you how to use our content spy tool.
You point this tool at a competitor's website, and it will scan every page, download their content, and analyze what the website is about. It then gives you insights into their content, such as what their latest posts are, what their largest pages are, and more.
Before we show you the tool in action, let's go through the settings.
Here you simply enter the website you want to check the content on.
If you want to see when their content was published, these are the settings that allow our application to determine that. Some websites might have different date formats, but if you're not sure, just leave those settings as they are.
Finally, this setting controls how many concurrent connections we’ll use to scan the website.
If you think their website might block our scanner’s IP address because of fast requests, lower the number. If you know it can handle the load, you can increase it. If you're unsure, just leave it at five so the scanner isn’t blocked when downloading the website’s content.
Now we’ll kick off a scan and come back in a few minutes to see the results.
After a few minutes, we scanned a total of 543 pages on the target website.
Here, you can see a word cloud — this shows the 200 most frequently mentioned phrases or words on the website. It gives you a quick overview of what the site is about.
For example, since this is a cooking website, we can see words like “recipe,” “food,” “chicken,” “cook,” “recipes,” “steak,” and “delicious” — all typical for that niche.
Scrolling down, you’ll find more detailed, page-level information.
If you want to find all articles about a specific topic — for example, “chicken” — you can filter the results.
If you want to see when content was published, you can sort by date. Some of this data is pulled from sitemaps, while other parts come from the on-page information, like the published date listed in an article.
You can also see which pages contain the largest amount of content by sorting articles by word count.
So, as you can see, if you want to do some competitor analysis, you can simply point this tool at their website, and a few minutes later you’ll get:
A word cloud showing what the site is about
The largest content pieces
The publication dates of their articles
A clear overview of what they’re publishing now versus what they used to publish
It gives you valuable insights into their content strategy.
That concludes our video, and as always, thank you for watching.
