Duplicate Internal Content Finder Demo Video

Hello everybody, in this video I will be showing you how to use a duplicate internal content finder tool. This tool will scan any given website for duplicate internal content. And duplicate internal content is simply content that is exactly the same, but it's on multiple pages across your website. And there's many reasons you don't want duplicate internal content on your website, but the main reason is it can damage your search engine rankings, because Google, if it has a large amount of duplicate content, can get confused about which pages are unique, which pages are entirely duplicate content. It can think you're doing various thin content, mass page websites and things like that — black hat SEO — so you can get algorithm penalties. There's loads of good reasons that you don't want a lot of duplicate content. You want each page on your website to be as unique and valuable as possible. So before we show the scanner in action, we'll just go through some of the settings here. First, enter the website you want to scan. It can be your website, a competitor's website, or a website you're doing an audit on — any website you can put in there. Then we have "how to check content." If your website uses paragraph tags to contain content, then it's best to click that — and most websites do. If it doesn’t, then we can pull content out of the HTML rather than just the paragraph tags. Below here we have "tags to ignore." We will exclude common false positives — things like cookie policies, terms and conditions, privacy statements, and similar — that you would expect to see duplicated across most pages on the website, which is fine if it's a small amount of content. Next we have "pages to ignore." We’re going to ignore WordPress tag and category pages, because these take content from your posts and duplicate them on your tags and category pages. So they will show as duplicate content, which they are, but it's only a small amount, so it's okay. We'll leave that ticked so we don't show those pages. Next we have sensitivity. If the sensitivity is set to high, then we'll flag even small sentences that are duplicated across multiple pages. For the sake of this demo, we'll show the scan in high sensitivity mode so you can see it can pick up even small amounts of duplicate content. Then we have scan speed. If you want to fire a lot of concurrent requests at the website to scan it as quickly as possible, you can increase that value. I'd probably leave it at about five, because sometimes if you scan a website too quickly, it can think it’s some sort of denial-of-service attack and block the IP address that we’re scanning from. So I'd normally just leave that on five so it scans the website without any issues. Okay, so that’s all the settings. We'll start the scan. As you can see, it's starting to work its way through all the different pages on the website. Now we'll pause the video and come back in a few minutes when the scan is complete. So we've come back a few minutes later, and you can see we found a lot of duplicate content. But in this instance, I don’t think it’s an issue because it is small content — small bits of duplicate content that we’ve picked up because we have the scan in high sensitivity mode. If we just scroll through here, we can see none of these are huge blocks of text that look like large pages where 80% of the content is the same. It all looks pretty reasonable to me. So hopefully you can see how this tool can really help you save time when you’re auditing a website. If you’ve got pages that aren’t ranking very well or they’re dropping out of the index and you suspect there’s a lot of duplicate internal content, you can just point this tool at the website. It’ll scan all the pages and give you a really good overview of what content is shared between which pages. That concludes this video. I hope you find the tool useful, and as always, thank you for watching.
